Welcome to your Seattle colleges (Central, South and SVI) new learning platform, Canvas! Effective Winter Term 2013, we will no longer use ANGEL as our learning platform. Instead, we will use Canvas, a new and exciting learning platform. We believe you will find Canvas to be much more user friendly, allowing you to concentrate on your studies, rather than the interface. The following information will help make your first exposure to Canvas as pleasant as possible.

Do I need special plugins? ...
Because Canvas was built using web standards, Canvas runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, & Android or any other device with a modern web browser.
If you are interested in minimums, they are as follows:
Not sure which browser you're using right now? Click here!
Need to upgrade your browser? Here are some helpful links ...
- Internet Explorer
- Safari (Mac), Safari (PC)
There are only 2 hard requirements for your Canvas experience:
- Internet Explorer 6 is extremely out of date and will not handle the the interactive things Canvas does
Canvas will work fine without Flash installed, however, you won't be able to use Canvas' built in audio/video features like media comments or web conferences.
Canvas will work fine in IE8, however you won't have rounded corners and interaction on a lot of pages. Plus, it will be noticeably slower than in more web standard compliant browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
Aside from Flash, there are no other plug-ins used by Canvas. However, if your instructor is using Collaborate (a popular conferencing tool outside of Canvas), you will need install a Java plug-in. It's free and easy to add to your computer, if needed.
The Canvas user interface (UI) was optimized for desktop displays. Therefore small form factors such as smart phones may not provide the experience your instructor wants you to have. However, Instructure, Canvas' parent company, is working on mobile apps for its users and we recommend visiting this site if you have an iOS mobile device: iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini: http://www.instructure.com/mobile
