Overview: 

This module will cover Communications and Profile settings that happen at the Global level--in other words, these settings impact how you use Canvas, regardless of what course you're in. 

Outcomes: 

By the end of this module, you should be able to: 

• Navigate the Canvas Dashboard
• Add an additional contact method
• Update your profile, including adding a picture
• Configure your Notifications preferences

Why this is important: 

Knowing what modifications are available to communications to and from Canvas will help you to understand the student experience with Canvas communications. Students can alter the same settings that instructors can. This high level of customization is beneficial for the student because it gives them control over how they deal with their learning. This freedom for the student means that instructors cannot make assumptions about how and when students will receive course notifications and announcements. Instructors must set clear expectations in their courses about how and when course information will be communicated to students.
